MayaWalk Tours
MayaWalk tours is one of two companies that are licensed to lead tours into the mayan caves and other adventures. That includes the Actun Tunichil Muknal, which Courtney and I will be adventuring into. They regard safety highly and are trained in all aspects of the tour.
“The ATM is a riveting, sensational and unparalleled experience. Mayawalk was the first outfitter leading tours in the cave and we still have the three original guides.
The tour leaves from the office in San Ignacio at 8:00am. The group will then head east so if you don’t want to come all the way to San Ignacio Town you can meet the group at the standard meeting point on the highway” – Andrew (Employee for MayaWalk)
The tour itsef is all inclusive, meaning, they provide the transportation to the drop-off area where we will then trudge through the jungle to get to the cave. They provide the headlamps for use and they also provide lunch.
They also offer rainforest to reef adventure packages, overnight rainforest packages, cave tubing at Caves branch, Barton Creek Cave canoeing, Macal River canoeing, Tikal Mayan Ruins adventures and Caracol Mayan Ruins adventures.
We’ve found MayaWalk’s prices to be fairly reasonable. The ATM tour will cost $75 USD per person. They also provide shuttle service to Belize city for $30.00
While Table Rock Jungle Lodge offers a ATM package, we couldn’t validate the price of it at $120 per person. I’m not sure why it is so much more money than Mayawalk, maybe it has something to do with transportation from the jungle lodge to the vacinity for drop-off for ATM. However, we have a car rental and there is a reason why. We need to use that to our advantage and try to shave off a few bucks where we can, or in this case, $90 between Courtney and I. That’s more than one day’s car rental.
You just have to remember your budget and be smart about it all. These jungle locations will try their best to sucker that money straight out of your pocket. If you’re willing to pay for convenience, then I say go for it. But waking up early to drive to MayaWalk will not kill us.

Liz, also look at pacz tours for ATM. I have no direct experience (just endless planning just like you) but there were some iffy reviews for Mayawalk in the forums and great comments on pacz.
Ande, I did see reviews on MayaWalk Tours and while they have gotten really good reviews, they have not so great ones as well. It seems as though the MayaWalk tours get bad reviews when you book last minute. Also, their receptionist lady isn’t very nice. Mayawalk is the cheapest and the good reviews outweigh the bad reviews They also have had good communication with us so I think we will stick with them this time around (pretty far into the booking process) We will let you know how it goes. Also, if you do go with Pacz tours, we’d love to know how that worked out for you as well. I did a bit of research on them and they do seem remarkable as well, however, as I mentioned we’re pretty far along into the booking process. We’re taking a gamble here I guess. But let’s hope for the best! I still think Jungle Rock was a great suggestion, thanks so much!
